  1. The bulldog is a British breed of DOG of 
  2. ancient but uncertain origin, it was formerly
  3. bred for bull-baiting. The bulldog grows to 
  4. about 45cm (18in) and has a smooth beige,
  5. tawny, or brindle coat. The French bulldog 
  6. is much lighter in build and has large 
  7. upright ears.
